Juvenile Black tern rust dark bar on sides. gray flanks. High contrast between lower rufous vermiculated back and light gray rump. Tail feathers were darker gray than rump. Small bouyant tern. 10 inches max. ear patch brings to mind peregrine falcon facial pattern somehow. white loves and almost complete eyering. dark cap with attached ear patch. Foeked tail looked rounded in flight. Feet appeared black. Bill all dark very thin and pointy.
