First Surf Scoter ever seen in Madison County found by Lois Rockhill. First winter female: Dark brown bodied bird. Heavy triangular bill. Bill had a lump at the top of the bill near the base. Bill was multicolored with a yellow tip. A black spot was at the back of the bill outlined in white. A faded white spot at the back of the head close to the neck. When stretching, wings were all dark.
