Thick-billed Kingbird, Laguna Niguel Regional Park, CA - 31 Jan 2021
Detalles de la observación
Continuing in the tall snags near Shelter 10. I saw the bird almost immediately and it sat quietly at that perch for 5-10 minutes before it started sallying out and catching bees. Once it started foraging, it did start to vocalize frequently. It moved around between three primary trees. A Cooper's Hawk came in the area and the kingbird did chase it off. Large kingbird with large and heavy bill. The head was dark brown with a dark mask across the eyes, and the back was slightly lighter than the head with rufous edges to the wing coverts. The rump and tail were also rufous-colored. The underside was pale; whitish on the throat and breast and pale yellow on the belly.
