Thankfully the bird foraged its way into some dappled sunlight and made it to this side of the tree.
Detalles de la observación
Drawn by light knocking and a suspicious “doit”, walked toward the northern fire break. Cupping ears, I heard knocking from two directions and found my lifer 3-Toed low on a snag (< 1 m above ground). The bird showed fine barring on flanks and the forehead looked brindled too. Slightly larger than nearby Downy, more in bulk than length. It uttered a few calls at one point and I may have caught one on the phone... tbd.
