a couple 'whit' calls
Detalles de la observación
*late; found yesterday by Paul Peterson and photographed by Ryan Doherty just before I arrived; smallish Empid with whitish breast, gray-green back, head more gray but not contrastingly so. Eye ring bold and bill clearly quite thick at base, eliminating rarer western species; wing bars and tertial edging bold; tail fairly short and primary projection short to medium; very active in time I saw it: flicking wings rapidly like a kinglet and flicking tail upward; call a snappy, abrupt ‘whit’ perfectly matching Least and not the fuller more liquid ‘whit’ of Willow—the other two species that ‘whit’ are Gray and Dusky and eliminated by structure, bill shape, thick bill, and tail motion
