I saw this bird just before I began recording (and described briefly on tape), when it was 15 meters away and about 10 meters above my level but about 4 meters above the ground in trees on slope above the road in same general area where I made the previous recording (i.e., near the second “overlook” about 800 meters below the peak) There seemed to be some sort of interaction, possibly with the Pyrrhomyias, at the beginning of this recording. I whistled to this bird before I began recording, which may have elicited a weak approach but the vocalizations remained the same. Although suggested in the voice announcement to be Elaenia chiriquensis, I suspect this species is instead involved (and these vocalizations match closely those in the first clip on the Boesman CD-ROM project). Weather conditions same [clear but hazy down in valley, trace breeze coming down the mountain, 68º F]. Equipment Notes: Sennheiser powered using phantom power and with filter in flat position and attenuator off for all recordings. Nagra input set at 2 mV / Pa and low-pass filter in flat position unless noted otherwise.
