Detalles de la observación
Two medium-sized gulls at rest on the water. Very dark backs contrasting with rest of body. Very crisp white trailing edge of primaries and secondaries visible when wings were spread. Undersides of wings dark and primary tips not as obvious when wings were folded, making Franklin's less likely. Also did not have bright eye arcs. These gulls had thick black bills unlike the thin pointy bill of a Bonaparte's. Exstensive dark patch on the back of the head of one gull, the other with less noticeable dark patch. From the phone-scoped photos it is easy to see thick black bills and the bright secondaries making a line between dark wing feathers and black wingtip, something that you don't get with Bonaparte's.
