A drenched Australian Raven perching, calling then flying off. The western race of the Australian Raven (Corvus coronoides perplexus) is very common in a range of habitats, including in urban settlements. Like most corvids, they are intelligent and adaptable – this bird was in coastal heath above the cliffs in Kalbarri National Park, Western Australia. It had been soaked in a heavy downpour, and was drinking rainwater from a puddle when we first saw it. It then flew up and perched on a twiggy branch nearby, watching us and calling occasionally before flying off. Elevation: 10 m. Date added to IBC: September 12, 2019.
