A White-faced Heron feeding in samphire with a Willie Wagtail. The White-faced Heron (Egretta novaehollandiae) is a common small Heron that occurs throughout Australia except in the most arid areas. It is found in a wide range of aquatic habitats – shallow fresh or brackish wetlands, saltmarshes, pastures, tidal mudflats and even trying to catch fish from garden fishponds! This White-faced Heron was feeding in a flooded samphire marsh at Coodanup on Peel Inlet, Western Australia, and was attended for a while by a Willie Wagtail (Rhipidura leucophrys). Elevation: 0 m. Date added to IBC: July 2, 2018.
