A female Plumbeous Kite perching and preening near her nest. The Plumbeous Kite (Ictinia plumbea) is widespread in northern South America east of the Andes. Plumbeous Kites occupy a wide range of forest types, with insects being their main prey. Nests are built in tall trees and are used season after season. Both parents share in raising their usually single chick. This female Plumbeous Kite was perched preening in the nest tree after having fed her chick. Elevation: 400 m. Date added to IBC: February 20, 2019.
