A stranded Crested Tern chick begins the long climb back to its nest - encouraged by its parent. When they become more active, Crested Tern (Thalasseus bergii) chicks often stray from the nest, placing themselves in danger from predators or from starvation if they are unable to return. This Crested Tern chick wandered from its nest and became stranded at the foot of the dune covered with a thick mat of Sea Spinach. One of its parents arrived, and guided it to the edge of the dune to begin the long climb up hill through thick Sea Spinach to its nest. Elevation: 11 m. Date added to IBC: November 20, 2018.
