Detalles de la observación
Alcid observed floating some distance to the west of the pier. Clean white throat, breast, and undertail. Black crown, nape, back, wings, and tail. Sharp, crisp linear border between the black and white areas of the face and neck. Bill was short and black. Did not see the underwings so cannot positively ID as to Scripps's or Craveri's. Murrelets are very rare to shallow near shore waters like those around the HB pier. Most likely a Scripps's. Water temp at pier reported Sunday Aug 11 at 66F is average to a bit below average for this time of year - so even less likely this bird is a Craveri's as they tend to come north during warm water periods.
