Detalles de la observación
This afternoon a sooty/dark pigeon alighted in the yard and fed on birdseed. First and only time in over 25 years that a rock pigeon actually alighted and stayed in the yard [and even sat on the neighbor's roof for numerous spells]. Perhaps only the 4th record for the houselist, with the others mere fly-by's. Potentially a "spread morph". A pigeon expert wrote me in an email: "That one is pretty unique. I doubt it came from far since it looks to be still in juvenile plumage and fairly recently weaned. It's color is definitely unusual and I'm going out on a limb to guess here. Just from the pics, it MIGHT be a Tiger Grizzle in juvenile plumage. If you look at the shots you have of the wing, you can see whitish color at the base of the shield feathers. I had a youngster somewhat like this some years back and it molted out into a mottled bird. Individual black/white feather in a somewhat random pattern all over the bird."
