Notice the feet and talons!
Detalles de la observación
I heard a small flock of about 4 RCKI agitated, scolding, a bit more strident and faster than usual. I figured I had a little owl, thinking maybe WHSO or NOPO. It took me a bit to locate it, about 15’ overhead among the twigs of a moderately dense very mature juniper. It was a tiny owl. It had ears like a screech-owl, but immediately I knew something was different: dark brown eyes, a rufous and gray-white face, a white breast with bold black vertical barring. The owl was awake, and looked down at me occasionally, not moving except to lower its head to see me. It never vocalized. The kinglets left after several minutes. The time was about 1600 hrs. After obtaining photos through the many foreground twigs I left with the owl still there hopefully undisturbed. Photo attached.
