Beobachtungsdetails
Adult Stilt Sandpiper retained some breeding plumage. It showed a chestnut colored eyeline with a white supercilum line that separated the eyeline from the cap,had a crown stripe, had heavily barred belly and breast through the undertail, and a streaked neck. The feathers on the mid-back were edged in buff or white that in flight gave the appearance of brown streaking on a dark brown back. The bill was long with a droop near the tip. In flight the wings showed no wing stripe and darker primaries and secondaries. There was not a white wedge on the back. The bird showed a white rump and upper tail coverts and a brownish tail. The legs were greenish. No call was heard. It was slightly smaller than the Lesser Yellowlegs and Killdeer. It had a dowitcher feeding style. (photo from scanned slide)
