Beobachtungsdetails
This checklist was entered by James R Hill III. This bird, an adult male Rufous Hummingbird (Selasphorus rufous), was first discovered on 27 September 1992, at the home of Beverly & Robert Felix, of 7965 Blazy Rd Edinboro, PA, which falls within the boundaries of the “Edinboro Lake” eBird Hotspot. It was tentatively identified as a Rufous by the homeowners and soon confirmed as an adult male Rufous Hummingbird by Jim & Jean Stull of the Presque Isle Audubon Society. Jean photographed it and her photo can be seen in the journal, Pennsylvania Birds, 1992, Volume 6 (Number 4), page 166. It was seen at the feeder daily from 27 September 1992 until 24 January 1993, for a total of 120 days. It was seen and/or photographed by many local birders including Jerry McWilliams, Mike Fialkovich, Jim and Jean Stull, Ed Kwater, and Chuck Gehringer. According to Jerry McWilliams, Jean Stull gave the homeowners a heated hummingbird feeder so the nectar would not freeze during sub-freezing Fall and Winter temperatures. It was further reported (on page 180, Pennsylvania Birds, 1992, Volume 6 (Number 4), that the homeowners “have been able to attract the bird to an enclosed basement entryway, where the bird is protected from the cold. It spends the night and very cold days inside the entryway, where a feeder has been placed containing a recommended mixture to sustain the bird until Spring.” The photo shown here was captured by Mike Fialkovich on this day, 11 October 1992.
