Incredible!!! The bird was first seen approximately at 37.857742, -121.563628 where my first thought was "uhhh is that a rough leg?!?" but it landed out of sight within seconds. After losing all hope of seeing it again, I was overjoyed to see it soaring above the fields of Coney island with several red tails (note that this is outside the count circle). I watched it here for about 20 minutes as it gradually drifted north and re-entered the circle eventually, but lost it soon after. One of the first things I noticed about this bird during this second observation was how much it hovered in place like a harrier. Additionally, the upper side of the tail was mostly white with a dark band at the tip. The wings were very pale, with mostly white feathering behind a line of tan underwing coverts. The expected dark brown "wrists" were present and very noticeable. It took a minute for it to sink in that I was actually looking at a rough leg here in the year 2025! Super cool experience.
