Small gadfly petrel with narrow wings, a pointed tail, overall pale gray upper parts with a gray head and a gray collar extending to overall white underparts. White underwings with a diagnostic broad dark line on the leading edge of the outer wing, continuing as a broad black diagonal stripe on the inner wing, reaching towards but not meeting the mid base of the wing.
