Larus sp. (R) with 1C Iceland (Thayer's) Gull (L).

Beobachtungsdetails

Photographed an interesting 1C at a distance in-flight and on the water. In flight showed: "venetian blind" pattern of primaries with brown outer webs and pale inner webs and dark tips; plain-ish greater coverts; dark-brown tail with barred uppertail coverts; mottled brown underparts; prominent but non-bulbous black bill. It settled on the water and was trying to consume what appeared to be a dark fish. At rest, its primaries were contrasty dark but not black. It was bulkier and larger than adjacent 1C Thayer's Gull. Perhaps just a "Cook's Inlet" Glaucous-winged x Am. Herring Gull, though its primaries seemed a bit dark to me.
