Plump, mottled brown and gray, salmon-orangish underparts, long bill, very short tail, dark crown with two or three horizontal light bars, large dark eyes close to top and back of head. Silently walked slowly across the gravel trail into the leaf litter on the forest floor seemingly foraging for worms. Would not not let me get closer than 20 feet. I took photo with my inexpensive, low photo resolution flip phone. Approximate coordinates: 35.29753545310789, -82.17545926681657, about 25-50 feet from the North Branch Little White Oak Creek.
