Bird was re found by Julie Bonnema and we were about to dip. Bird was located south of the first point south of Portage Park but just north of the park boundary sign. Walking back Julie saw movement out of the corner of her eye and alerted Brian and I. The bird seemed to pop up out of nowhere leading me to believe it was hunkered down in the larger rocks on the shoreline. As soon as we turned to look the birds posted up for about 15 seconds. Enough for all of us to get Quick Look’s through binoculars and I snapped off a couple photos then it flew further south down the shoreline and landed slightly out of sight for a shorty like me. The bird undulated in flight with its tail catching up with the undulations. Very cool flight for a bigger small bird. The bird did not land for but 5 seconds and flew further down around the curve of the inlet just past the boundary signs for private property. Black and white head with dark eye line, gray back to long dark tail, black bib on white chest. A glorious lifer for all of us! Thank you Amy Kearns, Kathy McClain and Jim Brown for re finding and reporting the bird on 1/17. Thank you to a great birding friend for having great eyes. Sorry you missed seeing the neon green meteor above us that left a burn trail in the sky.
