Beobachtungsdetails
An adult male encountered on the track, collecting nest material (dead twigs) from the ground. Returned three times to the same place on the side of the track to collect material, and with a twig in his bill, would walk back in the direction of the presumed nest, finally flying the last 5–10 m or so diagonally from the track to the nest. My view was blocked by vegetation so couldn’t see the nest, but it was likely at about 3 m height in a tangle of creepers and other vegetation in the understory. Vivid violet wash from nape to upper mantle, rufous of tail not very clear because feathers were wet. On the third occasion, I had moved a bit closer, and at the sound of my camera shutter the bird stopped still on the track with the twig in its bill. He wasn’t going to give away the nest with me so close. So I walked on, which meant flushing the bird from the track, but leaving him content that I had not seen the nest. He flew up from the track as I approached and flew a short distance into the understory to perch at a height of 2 m, on the side away from the presumed nest, and about 10 m from the track. I walked on, and shortly afterwards I could hear a dove singing from the same direction. I walked back to record the song. Soon after that, I heard a second call, lower and breathier, from the direction of the nest, presumably from the female (at seconds 00:32 and 00:45 in the recording). I was standing still on the track and she flew from the presumed nest site, some 20-30 m from me, showing a rufous tail. I left the area immediately so as not to cause any further disturbance near the nest
