Oh, how I adore the Purple Martin trill that the male makes to attract a female! I've read that Purple Martin females choose their mate based on his choice of nest site, but after reading THE EVOLUTION OF BEAUTY that Kyran Leeker surprised me with a copy of, I'm not so sure. Maybe they might pick the best songster! Perhaps she pair bonds with the male with most glorious sheen of iridescent indigo! Here are a few videos of the Purple Martins at the headquarters Purple Martin houses when they were still checking each other out and picking mates.
