Amazing record originally found by Schyler Brown this morning. Amber Leung spread the word. John O'Brien refound the bird later. I was on the Bolivar Peninsula with my son when I heard about the bird. I made the mistake of getting in line for the Bolivar Ferry as it took 3 hours to get across. We made it to the Piratic flycatcher spot at 350 pm. Thankfully, a number of people were already there and on the bird. From the parking lot, walk along the trail to this spot 29.5861766, -95.1531733. It was frequenting a large mulberry tree just south of this spot. It was feeding on mulberries, so hopefully it sticks around for a few days. At times, it would perch low on the lower right of the mulberry, flying up into the top of the mulberry multiple times. It returned to the same perch over the hour. Flycatcher about the size of a tanager. Generally upright posture. Small, pointy bill (about as long as the distance between eye and bill base). Brown upperparts. Brown auriculars and crown with white eyebrow. White eyebrow broadens toward rear and almost connects at nape. Underparts pale yellow with light streaking on chest down to upper belly. White just below auriculars, blending into dull yellow throat. Two white wingbars, but wingbars appear worn. Tail medium length. Yellow medium crown stripe exposed occasionally. Overall, reminiscient of a very dull kiskadee with a slim body and small bill. Only possible point of confusion is Variegated Flycatcher, but no rufous in tail, tail shorter, bill shorter, and smooth clean mantle. Did not vocalize.
