Unexpected. When I first saw the heron shape in the tree I thought Green Heron, since I just saw one last week. A good bird for the Riverwalk and kind of hard to find in St. Joseph Co. One used to stay at St. Joseph's Lake, but I never found it. Adult bird with the white unmarked underbelly. Bird was perched on the south side of the river just west of the wastewater treatment plant. Tree it was in was about in line with the dual park benches just west of/past the WWTP clarifiers. Seemed to be relatively steady and changed limbs just once. Thought it left a couple of times after trying to find a spot to get through all the vegetation for a clear photo, but it was just hidden behind the main bole of the tree it was in. Had to walk a few paces east of the benches to see it at an angle. Probably never would have found it but a goldfinch was making a different kind of call and I was trying to find out what was making the call. The AMGO just happened to be along the south slope of the river right below the BCNH.
