Beobachtungsdetails
Based on the sage advice from Kathy DeLara, I opted to drive here in the morning when the road was frozen. I arrived at the canyon/cliff's about 90 minutes prior to sunrise. After parking along the side road, I walked East to the stream until I was in Nebraska, according to the map. The beauty of arriving so early in the winter is how quiet the area is. There is no traffic or roaming cattle in the canyon. I could clearly hear everything with no interference. A train on the Wyoming side went by twice and seemed so noisy without any other city noise. I soon heard the GOEAs behind me and the BCRF in front of me. There was at least one BCRF calling, which I used Android Voice Recorder to capture. When the BCRF chattered, it was short at about 2 seconds. I missed recording the flock chatter due to the sudden quick, short burst. Same for the GOEA plus the distance. I waited to get a photo of the BCRF. The flock took off earlier than I expected, flying West just a bit, and quickly turned South. I decided to track. I drove to Matt Tighe's feedlot and then to the ranch house. I saw the flock turn East on the other side of Tighe's ranch house. They appeared to land in the tall weeds well beyond the house. I am guessing maybe 1000 to 1500 meters. There is no road access to get closer. I didn't drive up to Matt's house to request permission given the early hour. Other observers this year reported there was a large flock. I was not expecting the flock to be this large but explained hearing the chatter so well. I made a detailed count of the flock from the photo. Backing the count is the immense amount of white wash on the Wyoming side cliff's where it is too much for just a few birds.
