Edit: Initially submitted as accipiter sp., but after Andrew and I consulted a few folks each as well as reaching out to a Raptor ID Facebook group it seems like everyone agrees on NOGO. One of the first raptors of the day. Andrew and I saw this bird fly west to east over the mountain to the south of the viewpoint. The first thing we noted was a long tail which led us to accipiter sp. The bird was flying straight into 15-20 mph gusts with powerful wingbeats. The head was poking out much too far and is quite blocky to be a SSHA and the tail seems much too broad for a COHA. There is a photo that I overexposed a smidgen to see what I could gather from the underside pattern of wings and breast seemed to be consistent with accipiter sp. In this same photo the undertail coverts seem to be quite extensive. The wings were long and quite tapered at the "hands" which almost makes the bird seem falconesque, but in context with the wide/broad tail it seems good for NOGO. Reaching out for multiple opinions, but leaning NOGO mainly on the tapered hands and very broad tail. The bird seemed to be quite a "buteoesque accipiter".
