BREEDING STATUS: territorial BEHAVIOR CONTEXT: mating invitation. Recordist's Note: "Bird was drumming from top of 30 meter Larch snag, small stream in background. Still approx 1/2 meter snow in places. This is *not* a good recording!" BNA: Tapping (may be known as Displacement Tapping) is initially heard (not sure if it is from this bird) followed by drumming. Call Notes (Pik Call) may also be heard in the last segment of the recording. CZ 26/02/2004. [This recording has three parts, the first contains exclusively soft tapping, the second has 78 Call Notes (a soft "pik") and three examples of what appear to represent "Fast Drums," and the third part (after the announcement) has 26 more Call Notes and two more Drums. Quality changed from 3, 2 to 3, 2/2-1 (the first pat is very weak, the second and third parts are much better, but the Drums have a much better signal than the calls - BEST calls at 2:34-2:44) - CAM - 21 April 2005]. Other Behaviors: Bill Drumming. Habitat: Forest, Coniferous Forest, Stream.
