Beobachtungsdetails
We tentatively identified this bird as Hammond's Flycatcher while viewing it and the photos corroborate that identification. This bird appeared to have long primary projections and a small, mostly dark bill. In all photos the bill appears quite dark, having very little orangish color at the base of the lower mandible, and it appears thin and narrow. The plumage appeared quite gray overall with some faint yellow wash at the sides of the breast. It had a rather bold, almond-shaped eye ring that at times appeared quite acutely pointed behind the eye, giving a tear-drop appearance to the eye ring. It also had two prominent white wing bars. Most views were backlit with high sun so colors may have been distorted, but were certainly rather dull overall, with gray being the dominant color to the the upperparts rather than olive. The bird appeared rather small and compact to this observer, having a slightly-crested appearance rather than the more-rounded head shape generally seen in a Dusky Flycatcher. In several views the apparent length of the primary extension also suggested Hammond's Flycatcher, the wings extending substantially beyond the undertail coverts. It also appeared to lack the length and light color to the lower mandible and short-winged/longer tail combination that would be expected in Gray or Dusky flycatchers.
