Beobachtungsdetails
I first detected the bird foraging quietly in the mesquites about 1m off the ground and knew immediately that it was something good (Bell's Vireo was my first thought). It soon began feeding more in the open sometimes so close to me that I had to back up to focus on it for photos. This location was in the mesquites at the county line south into LA by 10m, if that, but it moved north undeniably into Kern. Once it became more accommodating I re-identified it as a Gray Vireo. It was plain pale gray above with darker brownish tinged wings and tail and a thin greater covert wing bar. It had a complete white eye ring and only a hint of a spectacle giving it a blank-faced look. It was paler below. The legs and bill were black. It moved deliberately though flipping its tail around and was mostly silently occasionally making some churring calls.
