Beobachtungsdetails
Unfortunately, my extended observation was within a RESTRICTED AREA, with no public access. It first called 5 times at 9:25, ~200 yards southwest of the Administration Office, then it slowly moved east toward the service road. At 9:30 it flew right over my head and stayed in the immediate area for 20 more minutes. During this time it actively fed on 5 large insects and remained in Sea Grape trees. During this time the pale Great Crested Flycatcher followed it and remained nearby. The La Sagra's periodically called ~20-22 times, mainly with 2-3 calls, then a long pause. It moved west into a large ficus tree and then farther west but did not call. Perhaps it headed toward the Nature Trail, which has been somewhat of a pattern. I was able to photograph the bird in different lighting today and it's amazing how the light makes the yellow wash appear strong or disappear. The first photo shows a true coloration of the bird, as well as the large bushy head and a slight vesty look. It came in low and called 3 times. Though these 2 photos don't show it, the bird mostly perched in a 45-degree angle, characteristic of the species. It also stayed mid-level in the Sea Grapes, another characteristic.
