Beobachtungsdetails
Came in to mob a calling pygmy owl along the roadside. Gave a frequent sweet chip, less harsh than H. constantii. Frequently spread its long tail which appeared black with white corners. Had a bright white spot behind the eye, not a line. Dusky gray flanks contrasted with narrow vertical white stripe down middle of breast. Very long bill on a large hummingbird. Perched for awhile allowing Carlos Funes to get some photos, despite poor light conditions. The location was at the extreme west end of the transect, 3.7 km from Comalí. We did not expect this species as there was no humid forest nearby, although we were not far from a river with a riparian strip. We were in a valley in an area of ecotone transition between dry forest valley (with almost no forest left) and pine-oak covered hillsides. Photos by Carlos Funes
