Beobachtungsdetails
Initially seen in a group of Ibis, Avocets, and Godwits. The Ibis left and the Whimbrel was seen with the flock of MAGO and AMAV for direct comparison. Appeared smaller size than marbled godwits and avocets although I think this was a result of bird's shorter legs. It had a long decurved bill that appeared all black and was shorter than length of Godwits. The head had a dark cap and eye line with pale supercillium. It also is very pale throat and underside that made it recognizable in the flock even at a distance. The bird seemed a brown/grey color and did not have the buffy warm tones that the Marbled Godwits had. I watched it for ~60 minutes. The distance, wind, and light off the water made any decent shots virtually impossible to obtain. I think the observers that viewed the bird after I left had the same problem. I did manage some grainy scope pictures that show some of the mentioned i.d. characteristics.
