Cockatiel pair perching on tree hollow. The Cockatiel (Nymphicus hollandicus) is the smallest member of the cockatoo family and occurs throughout the drier parts of continental Australia. The species is sexually dimorphic – the males have a bright yellow face with an orange cheek patch, while the female has a mainly grey face and duller cheek patch. Cockatiels are irruptive, and move to areas where rain has fallen and food is abundant. This pair landed on a dead tree hollow in a River Gum on Wooleen Station, presumably to inspect it as a potential nest site. Elevation: 293 m. Date added to IBC: August 21, 2018.
