Beobachtungsdetails
During the periods 1:35-1:40 pm, and intermittently 2:30-4:00 pm, we saw rosy-finch flocks of various sizes arrive, forage for a few minutes, and then fly off. Although we estimated the size of the largest flock at about 40 birds, most of the flocks represented less than ten individuals and at least one bird was a male Gray-crowned Rosy-Finch during two visits. In most cases, we initially heard the "cheep" calls by these birds as they arrived, but then observed them as they circled about and eventually landed on the slope just below the pullout. My views were at distances down to 15 meters, but more often the birds were 30-40 meters away and they were often obscured by the curvature of the slope when at greater distances. I studied some birds carefully and I took a few photos, but my description is much too long to fit into the space provided, so I will send documentation to the Arizona Bird Committee when possible. For now, the embedded photos should document at least a few of these birds.
