Beobachtungsdetails
After stumbling upon one bird in the early evening (6:28 PM) we hurriedly dropped a chum slick that quickly drew in the others, as well about 70 Wilson's Storm-Petrels and a single Leach's. These were watched and photographed for close to an hour before the evening light became way too poor for photography and word from another boat of fish biting nearby drew us away. It was really frustrating that this happened SO late in the day because the light was really terrible and yet the birds only feet away from the boat and feeding on the slick very actively. Neverless it was a thrilling experience. At one point I thought there could be as many as 8 Band-rumps but we consistently counted 6, so left it at that. Several individuals were photographed. A detailed report including my photographs and those by John Shemilt (better images) will be submitted to NYSARC with a detailed analysis of molt state, to perhaps address future discussion of subdivisions with the Band-rumped complex.
