NOTES: Neotropical Institute Cut # 2. Bulk reel: 455 Weather: Fair. A "dawn song." *Note: I was not able to see this bird but the quality of the song is such that there seems little question of the ident. Quality: 1-2. Level: 5. Note: In the background faintly are heard Basileuterus nigrocristatus and Conirostrum sitticola. But in latter part is heard a song, fairly loud, followed by a voice announcement saying "that may be the wren"; that sone may possibly be a Type #3 song of Troglodytes solstitialis [there appear to be lines drawn through "Troglodytes solstitialis"; unsure of recordist's meaning here] but I suspect it is more likely the song of Hellmayrea (= Synallaxis?) gularis. If the latter is true, then it's more closesly related to Cranioleuca then it is to Synallaxis. Later there is heard the song Type #2 of Troglodytes solstitialis [again recordist has drawn a line through the words "Troglodytes solstitialis."] Note: 29/6/63. Although no dawn song was heard yesterday or today, playback of this cut caused birds to react excitedly and give the "wheezy" song.
