NOTES: Neotropical Institute Cut # 31. Bulk reel: [written on separate page just previous to Cut 31:] Note - 9Nov - There was no "preliminary" display period (ie 4:45AM) the morning as there has been "every AM except Monday." The first displays heard came 5:25-5:30AM (See Cut 31.) Conditions here in general with respect to Cracids are about as I found them in July. Less crowing by jacquacu, absolutely no activity by pipile (nor any seen!!), no song by C. alector (until this AM), regular dawn singing by Mitu tomentosum. [notes for Cut 31:] The 1st sounds heard today were crows in distance at about 5:30AM. The first nearby sounds are these calls, at first very quiet. Quality 2. Level: +12. Parabola: 36". Note that these are very dry and hoarse and seem more like marail (which so far I haven't found in this spot or area), but the others have more of the quality of jacquacu. Crows in distance, then 2 displays fairly nearby ((Momotus momota also heard.) 139 tape.
