Podrobnosti k pozorování
*Rare but expected; annual in the NE and particularly reliable here, at the Bowman Ave. Pond, where this bird has been returning for 11 years in a row. My 4th time seeing this local legend and the first time since Jan 2023! Located for the first time this winter a week ago by Tom and Gail, and keeping consistent in its midday presence as it has in prior years. I first tried for this bird yesterday while getting my grandma, but when I arrived, geese were flying off and the GWFG was nowhere to be found. I wouldn’t have tried again if my grandma hadn’t forgotten her phone at home, forcing a return to Rye, thereby necessitating a second shot at the goose. Geese were all over Bowman when I arrived, meaning there was a good shot our orange-footed friend was around, and within five minutes, I located the bird rather close to my vantage point. Orange beak, longer, thinner white flank stripe, and thicker, darker neck all indicate this bird is of the Greenland ssp, the standard visitor to the NE and the confirmed ssp of this goose in prior years.
