Podrobnosti k pozorování
Continuing mega rarity found by Max Epstein on 12/6. The second state record. On our way from Manhattan to Montauk, we didn’t hear any positive reports, so we were anxious as we were getting close to our destination. As we were driving toward the parking lot, we saw Sean S standing along the road and to our amazement, he pointed the bird across the street. Mary Beth and I quickly got out of the car. The grayish brown sparrow was calmly foraging in grass on the other side of the driveway. Compering to the Song Sparrow nearby it was so well blended in the grass it took me for some moment to spot it. Overall super subtle looking sparrow (but not plain) covered with intricate subtle patterns. Even the hard streaks were subtle. Whitish breast with some subtle streaks, warmer brown cheek spot and faint eye-ring. It occasionally flew short distances but stayed around the area. It was super cold and windy day and we didn’t stay long. Thanks to Max for the amazing find and thanks to Sean for re-finding it this morning!
