Poznámky
Goose expert Steve Mlodinow supported my guess this might be a hybrid as follows, "Hybrid, methinks. The grayish markings are in between to the two species, with the head looking much like a Ross's. Overall, the bird seems small and Ross's like, but the anatomic grin patch is very much not that of a Ross's Goose."
Podrobnosti k pozorování
An imm. that a couple of people had reported on 11/27 as Ross's Goose per the lobby journal at Nature Center. Good pictures were entered in eBird 11/27 by another observer under Snow Goose. This is the same bird I saw today but couldn't get a good picture. Figured it was likely just a Lesser Snow but considered it being maybe a hybrid Snow X Ross's due to what I thought was smallish size, bill maybe showing the bluish base, round head, possibly somewhat straighter edge to cheek where it meets the bill, and a grin patch that didn't seem as broad as Snow but too big for Ross's. The paler and less extensive darker area I thought might be due to it changing into adult when I saw it but Sibley shows imm. Ross's that way. It took off with the CANG and was too big for Ross's in flight. I referred this to goose expert Steve Mlodinow. He responded as follows, " Hybrid, methinks. The grayish markings are in between to the two species, with the head looking much like a Ross's. Overall, the bird seems small and Ross's like, but the anatomic grin patch is very much not that of a Ross's Goose."
