**very rarely seen inshore in NY, continuing bird found yesterday by Elias Markee-Ratner on the interior flats at the mouth of the inlet. Amazing views as it foraged onshore, phalarope’d around in the shallows, and bedded down in the wrack for a bit. Flushed several times by a kite surfer and a low-flying helicopter, occasionally landing elsewhere on the flats but returning to its favored area on the near shore with surprising resolve. The only one I’ve seen prior was with bare eyes on a pelagic in-between dry heaves, so this felt like a lifer. Photos
