First spotted by Kristi Streiffert on December 2, 2025. Diving duck that we saw both in flight and diving. In flight it is a plump duck with a short neck. Back and top of wings were brownish-black, with a white ring around neck that separate brown color of the top of the body from head. Head had a dark cap, white face with a dark patch in the ear area. Bill was green/gray and short. Lower portion of the body was white below the tail area. Tail was dark, short, and spiky looking. Photos included.
