Podrobnosti k pozorování
Continuing first county record, found yesterday by Lynn Scarlett. Seen along the west shore of the slough, with best views had while standing here: (34.4137468, -119.8775641). The sun was rather low, but at my back, so while views were good, the colors were a bit distorted. Nevertheless, this was a medium-sized Calidris, approximately of similar height and bulk to the Semipalmated Plovers it was associating with. The bill was moderately long, especially for a Calidris, and was black with a distinctly reddish-orange base to the mandible. A prominent white supercilium contrasted with the finely streak crown and cheeks. The upper parts were grayish-brown, with the scapulars and coverts being mostly dark with paler grayish-tan fringes. The underparts were white, with fine dark streaking across the chest and extending down the flanks almost to the under tail coverts. The wings were quite long with noticeable primary projection and primary tips extending past the tip of the tail. The legs were dark. Although I saw the bird in flight briefly, I embarrassingly managed to miss seeing the white rump. Photos and video to be added.
