Podrobnosti k pozorování
Continuing pair roosting in the pond. These birds are larger than one would expect for cackling geese but they showed some key features that distinguish them from smaller Canada geese subspecies. Pale or frosty coloration Rounded/circular heads Steep foreheads which can give their heads a blocky appearance Small bill to head ratio in addition to the triangular bill shape which I read the former is more important for cackling ID Faint white neck ring (present on one bird only) Small size (when compared to Canada geese which appear to be northern migrants) These birds never seemed to be too far apart and one bird appeared to be larger than the other. Also worth mentioning that these geese appeared to stay on the pond longer than normal. Usually all the geese leave the pond shorty after sunrise and when a few groups left the pond at the end of my visit I assumed they would leave as well. If anyone wants to see the roosting geese flocks here, coming to the pond at sunrise is the best bet.
