Podrobnosti k pozorování
Single bird resting among long-billed dowitchers and on a log in Fuller's Slough; several greater yellowlegs were resting further along the log. First seen at 12:13 by Arne Toma, who pointed out the leg colour. First thought was redshank, but since I/we had never seen one before, we took photos, and reached out to Brian Self, who was on-site, who consulted with Kristina Breit as well. Sighting confirmed when Kristina's photo revealed the two tone beak with distinct redat base of lower beak. beak. Exciting! -- Long, slender structure. -- Bill distinctly two-toned — black tip with red base on lower bill. -- Legs bright red-orange, clearly longer than the accompanying dowitchers. -- Plumage smooth pale-grey above and clean white below. -- Believe this is an adult in non-breeding (basic) plumage, sex undetermined. -- Bird was loosely associating with dowitchers, sleeping/resting unless annoyed by dowitchers; vocalization not heard.
