Podrobnosti k pozorování
Counted each of six individuals one at a time. All were feeding on the ground with the munias and chipping sparrow. I have recently observed several distinct individuals, attested by different plumages suggesting different levels of maturity - including one adult male in breeding plumage. They are smaller than my house finches, have plainer markings and different coloring than my goldfinches, and subdued, less uniform coloration than my munias. They are probably most similar to the munias, but the munias have a rounder head and more robust shape to the bill, which is always dark. The munias are also stickier. Several of the whydahs have an unmistakable red or partially-red bill or a raised white gape. I suspect this may be a small flock of whydahs, especially given that the adult male mentioned and a very mature-looking female or immature male have also been photographed at this hotspot. Pictures
