🔴 identifying birds is hard??! 😵‍💫😬 NG: taking unilateral action & putting this down as RCSP for now, we'll see what the lab results come back as and what the ebird police dictate. came across a sparrow lurking around the low junipers on the knob on the NE side of the lake. my first impression was of a large chunky sparrow, so much so that i briefly thought gtto. it was a streaky hatch-year which makes things difficult. large eye, dark mustache, slight rufousy tint to line behind eye and crown stripe, and rufous tint to broad blurry streaking on mantle. posture and behavior "felt" like a rcsp too - seemed kind of hunched over, hopping around on stone wall, etc. We got lots of pics. fun experience to be stumped by a bird!!! MY: Concur that this was fun. The strong eye-ring broken in the back also points to RCSP (vs. Cassin's, which is what we were entertaining).
