Podrobnosti k pozorování
I spotted one scruffy looking adult Sabine's gull flying south in Friar Roads, NB. Identified in flight by the unmistakable wing pattern of extensive black wing tips, a broad white triangle in the inner primaries and secondaries, and gray coverts, scaps, and mantle. The gull would light on the water for a few minutes to catch krill and then take flight again, making photos difficult by myself. This SAGU was close to the Maine border, but never crossed. This is the same Sabine's gull that we spotted last weekend. The two black spots on the tail feathers are unique for ID, as well as its well-worn appearance. Follow up note: I think that this is likely a year-old bird based on the the mottled appearance of the hood at this early date, the dull yellow tip to the bill, and the two black spots in the tail feathers.
