Podrobnosti k pozorování
The most conspicuous feature of Black-hooded Oriole is its brilliant coloration. The head, neck, throat and upper breast are glossy black and the rest of the body including upper wing coverts are bright golden-yellow. Black flight feathers are visible during flight. The red eye and pink bill are the typical characteristics associated with the adult Black-hooded Orioles. The female is similar to male except slightly duller upperpart. The plumage of juvenile is distinctly different from adult male and female. The head, face, throat and upper breast has mixed coloration of yellow - white - black. The throat is prominently dusky white with black streaks. The eye and bill are black which distinguish the juvenile from the adult male and female. It is observed that they feed on fruits, figs and insects such as gnats, moths and hairy caterpillars. Nestlings are fed with gnats and other small insects including small caterpillars. Observed foraging alone. Seen feeding mostly high in trees, but also seen descending to ground to take insects.
